The Corner Strategy
The single most important technique in 2048 is keeping your highest tile in a corner. Choose one corner (most players prefer the bottom-left or bottom-right) and never move your highest tile away from it. Build a descending chain of tiles along the edge — for example, 512-256-128-64 in a row. This keeps the board organized and maximizes merge opportunities. Always prioritize moves that keep your big tile anchored.
Building a Tile Chain
Once your highest tile is locked in a corner, arrange the next-largest tiles in descending order along the edge. Think of it as a snake pattern — the values should decrease as they wind along the bottom row and then up the next column. This chain structure means that when new merges happen, they cascade naturally toward the corner tile. A well-built chain can carry you from 256 all the way to 2048 in a fluid sequence of merges.
